One of, if not the demanding circuits in Formula 1®, the Circuit de Monaco is also one of the most dangerous in spite of the (relatively!) low speeds the cars average around the circuit. This is in large part due to the circuit’s narrow track, tight corners, many elevation changes and even a tunnel! In fact, if the Circuit de Monaco were to be submitted for safety approval today, it almost certainly wouldn’t pass! However, in conjunction with the circuit’s history, the danger of the Monaco Grand Prix is what makes it so prestigious and revered by drivers and fans alike, even if it is, as once described by F1® legend, Nelson Piquet, as being like, “riding a bicycle around your living room”!

In stark contrast to the testing and demanding nature on the track, away from the track the sights and atmosphere are the most renowned on the Formula 1® calendar. The event is famous for the parties that take place throughout the weekend as well as the rich and famous personalities that descend upon the tiny sovereign city-state. The event was perhaps best summed-up by the prince of Monte Carlo himself, Prince Rainier, when he described it as “an exceptional location of glamour and prestige”.
