Event Details

Scheduled for the first full week of April, the Masters Golf Tournament (otherwise known as the US Masters) is the first of the four majors to be played each year. Unlike the other major championships, the US Masters is held each year at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. In 2013, Adam Scott became the first Australian ever to win the US Masters (and thus creating one of the most memorable images in Australian sport ever); winning in dramatic fashion by sinking a 12 foot birdie-putt on the second play-off hole!

At last year’s tournament, relative unknown, 28 year-old Englishman, Danny Willet, claimed his first (and what a first!) PGA Tour victory with a five under 283 to finish three strokes ahead of countryman, Lee Westwood and reigning champion, Jordan Speith. Unfortunately for Willett thoughhis victory is less likely to be remembered than the spectacular way in which Speith fell apart on the home straight. Having lead from the first round of the Tournament until the 11th hole of the fifth and final round, Speith then proceeded to – in what many commentators have described as one the biggest sporting ‘chokes’ of all time – score a quadruple-bogey on the par 3 12th to put himself out of contention! However, nothing should be taken away from Willet’s victory – as his composure under immense pressure was all class!
