The Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley 2019, known to the world over as Mugello or the Italian MotoGP™, is famous for it’s no holds barred racing. The race is located in the beautiful Tuscany region and is staged at one of the most world’s modern and picturesque circuits, Circuito del Mugello. The 5.245km circuit blends in naturally within a beautiful tree lined valley, however don’t let the beauty of this track fool you – it’s one of the most challenging tracks on the MotoGP™ calendar, consisting of of 15 turns including 9 right-handers and 6 left, with the longest straight measuring in at 1.141km. The peak speeds for this track can be be blinding with riders reaching up to 350.8km/h. Just last year, Michele Pirro survived a horrific 350km/h crash. The combination of slow and fast turns with sweeping curves, long straights and off-camber corners makes this event one of the most exciting races in the MotoGP™ calendar.
When you arrive at the Cicruito del Mugello on race day, you’ll able to feel the electric & frenetic atmosphere as the crowd urge their hero and one of the most successful riders of all time Valentino Rossi to take the chequered flag over former teammate, now arch rival (and 2018 race winner), Jorge Lorenzo. You’ll be sure to hear Rossi’s fans when he passes his ‘tribunes’ (stands with only his fans in them) as their cheers for him are known to drown out the sound of the bikes. Another Spaniard in Marc Marquez is another rider that Rossi will be especially determined to best in front of his home crowd!
However, Rossi won’t be the only Italian the locals will be supporting, many Italian riders, including Andrea Dovisioso, Andrea Iannone and Danilo Petrucci, will also be cheered-on by the masses as they look to win it all in front of their countrymen. Andrea Dovisioso and Danillo Petrucci being part of the Ducati team will also have an added advantage, as Mugello is Ductai’s home track and where they do all their testing. In addition to the Italian MotoGP™, travellers to the event will also get a chance to explore the beautiful cities of Italy which consist of breathtaking coastline, great weather, scrumptious cuisine, thousands of years of culture, historical architecture and endless amounts of fine wine… what more could you want from a holiday?! With Mugello located in central Italy, it’s just a short drive to cities such as Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa and Lucca which are all worth taking a day or more to discover some of Italy’s finest architecture and historical sights.
