Embark Ship early afternoon

Welcome to your luxurious floating home for the next 15 days. This afternoon you’ll have time to unpack, relax and get acquainted with your ship, as the excitement builds for everything that’s about to come with an 14 Nights, a Concerto River Ship. 


11 July, Saturday – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Choose your sightseeing in Amsterdam. Tonight, celebrate with a gala welcome dinner.                 

Freedom of Choice Sightseeing:

Perhaps slow things down and cruise the canals on a glass-top boat. Maybe visit Zaanse Schans – the quintessential Dutch village known for its windmills and specialty produce. Or even sleep in and take the day as it comes.


12 July, Sunday – Bonn, Andernach

This morning, awake to a new country, a new city, with unlimited possibilities for what the day could bring. After your sightseeing in Bonn, you’ll then travel to Andernach for your first Signature Experience.

Freedom of Choice Sightseeing:

Take a discovery through the city. 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, and you will visit the house where he was born, which is now a museum. Alternatively, set off on a bike to explore.

Signature Experience:

Visit Namedy Castle. Go beyond the gates and wander about the rooms, hidden nooks and grounds, then enjoy a cocktail party in the ballroom, where a pianist sets the mood.


 13 July, Monday – Rüdesheim

Have your camera handy to capture some of the best scenery you’ll encounter as you cruise through the Rhine Gorge. Dock in Rüdesheim, where you will then choose your sightseeing.

A gondola ride over the Rhine Valley will give you the best perspective of the town. For something a little more quirky, Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum houses fine automated musical creations. Otherwise, a selection of fine Rhine Valley wines eagerly await your palate at an onboard tasting.


14 July, Tuesday – Miltenberg

Seize the day with your choice of sightseeing.

15 July, Wednesday – Würzburg

21 July, Tuesday – Vienna

22 July, Wednesday – Budapest

Enjoy a relaxing morning sailing to Budapest. Afterwards, enjoy your Signature Experience on May to September departures.                       

Signature Experience:

This afternoon, follow in the footsteps of the Habsburg Empire. Enjoy a welcome reception at Budapest’s Royal Waiting Room, then board the Grand Empress steam train. You will see inside some ornately adorned carriages from the early 1900s. Gödöllő Palace, Elisabeth of Bavaria’s favourite residence, is your destination. You will be shown through this monument of Hungarian aristocracy and architecture. Later, be treated like royalty with dinner served on your train, before returning to your ship. Operates on all departures between May and September.


23 July, Thursday – Budapest

Enjoy a morning city tour of Budapest taking in its historic monuments, followed by the afternoon at leisure to further explore.                              


24 July, Friday – Budapest

Disembark Ship after breakfast.

Event
Q. What Visas do I require?
A. Your friendly Sales Consultant will let you know if your destination or transit locations require a visa. Should you require a visa, you will need to apply for these approximately 3-4 months prior to your departure. Some destinations recommend applications to be 6 months prior to departure. We recommended you visit https://visasdirect.com.au/for both information and the application of visas. For NZ passport holders please visit https://www.mfat.govt.nz/en/embassies/ for information and contacts on visa requirements
Q. Where do I join the tour?
A. Most itineraries commence with a transfer from the airport, or a meet and greet on Day 1. There may be times recommended for you to fly, which your Sales consultant will provide you. If you choose to fly in a few days prior to your tour commencing and explore independently you will be advised of a time and location to meet the tour group. If booking pre tour accommodation with APT on an exclusive APT tour itinerary, you will receive both a transfer from the airport and on Day 1 of the tour to join your fellow guests. For Europe River cruises, the vessels are available for early boarding upon your arrival. Luggage can be stored at reception, and
passengers have access to the main lounge. Cabin check in is available from 3pm. For passengers joining a European River cruise, wishing to make their own way to meet their cruise on Day 1, please see our River Ship Port Details Page,  which will provide you advice of where sailing commences. Please note that due to nautical regulations, this may be subject to change. Therefore it is extremely important that all passengers have provided their pre tour contact number.
Q. What are the luggage requirements?
A. Each passenger is entitled to take one piece of luggage that does not exceed 160cm – length/height/width (63 inches), weight limit 20kgs (44 pounds). Additional fees may apply for additional luggage, and must be requested by time of final payment.
Q. What is the dress code?
Generally, smart casual is acceptable on most tours, however some tours may require/recommend per below:

  • Jacket and tie for Formal nights on board ocean cruising
  • Comfortable and light casual clothing for adventure/safari touring\
  • Wet shoes for Kimberley Wilderness Adventure, Outback Wilderness Adventures
  • Comfortable footwear is recommended across all tours.

Q. Is tipping included on my APT tour?
A. Tipping is included for all APT operated tours. Your Sales consultant can provide you with detailed advice during your booking enquiry specific to the destination you are visiting.
Q. What are freedom of choice touring options?
A. For APT tour programs, you may have the opportunity to select a Freedom of Choice Touring activity. These options are at no additional cost, and confirmed whilst on tour. The Tour Directors will guide you through all of the available options, and assist with booking these for those who are interested. Your brochure or our website will feature Freedom of Choice options for some tours – where applicable. Should time permit, passengers may be given the opportunity to experience a second option by purchasing that option.

Before you go
Q. Are transfers included?
A. Usually a transfer is included in each direction of your tour if booking an APT operated tour itinerary: one upon arrival and one on your last day. However this is subject to the specific itinerary booked which your Sales consultant will explain during the course of your booking. As a general rule, you will receive a transfer on the first and last day or your tour and/or if you have booked pre or post tour accommodation through APT. Please note that if you have booked a Charter tour or Voyage tour of Europe, please check with your Sales consultant in regards to the included transfers for your specific tour.
Q. What if I have special dietary requirements?
A. Please ensure you advise your consultant during your booking process if you or any of your travelling companions have special dietary needs or requests. We aim to cater for all requests which are advised at the time of making your booking.
Q. What is the currency on board?
A. Your Sales Consultant can provide you with information pertaining to currency used on tour and throughout the course of your trip. You will also receive a Tour Hints booklet in your documentation pack with an overview of currency you will need and on-board payment types.

When you return
Q. How do I communicate feedback and comments?
A. We value your comments and welcome all feedback from our returning guests. We have the facility for you to chat with a member of our Sales Team during office hours – see the ‘Live Chat’ area on the right hand of your screen. Alternatively you can contact us here, or email us at [email protected] You will also receive a feedback form before the end of your tour. These forms are valued to us as your comments and suggestions are taken on board to continually improve our tours.

Whilst on tour
Q. Do I need vaccinations and medical advice?
A. We recommend that you seek medical advice from your local Medical Practitioner, as they will have the most up to date details on appropriate vaccines, tablets and latest medical travel information. Some destinations do have mandatory health regulations such as areas of Africa require Yellow Fever Vaccinations. Overall, a reasonable level of health and mobility is requirement for most tours. Upon securing a reservation, you will be asked if you have any health or mobility restrictions. Should there be any restrictions; a questionnaire will be made available for completion so that we can assess the suitability of your trip.
Q. Can you cater for a CPAP machine?
A. Most destinations can cater for passengers who require the use of a CPAP machine. It is important that you provide this information at time of booking.
Q. How much walking is involved?
A. Most tours require a reasonable level of fitness to be able to walk on sightseeing trips, navigate along uneven ground and should be able to walk unaided for up to 1.5km. On some adventure tours, we may visit remote areas and feature activities with varying degrees of difficulty, it is vital to select a tour with an activity level suited to your health and fitness. A good level of fitness is essential for you to undertake walks in hot conditions and over terrain with uneven and slippery surfaces. Some walks will require you to clamber over boulders up to one metre high. It is your responsibility to carry any medication you require for the tour’s duration and consult your local medical practitioner for any health advice. Your sales consultant will be able to provide more accurate information on walking involved on the specific tour booked.

Q. Do you have storage for insulin?
A. Whilst passengers may not have specific facilities to store their insulin in their rooms and cabins, the staff/crew should have facilities to store on passenger behalf. This information is required to be advised at time of booking. You may be required to travel with your own syringe disposal unit.
Q. How do I advise of health/mobility requirements?
A. Your Sales consultant will ask you for any requirements pertaining to your Health & Fitness during your booking process. A questionnaire may be required to be completed, which you will be advised

Embark Ship early afternoon

Welcome to your luxurious floating home for the next 15 days. This afternoon you’ll have time to unpack, relax and get acquainted with your ship, as the excitement builds for everything that’s about to come with an 14 Nights, a Concerto River Ship. 


11 July, Saturday – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Choose your sightseeing in Amsterdam. Tonight, celebrate with a gala welcome dinner.                 

Freedom of Choice Sightseeing:

Perhaps slow things down and cruise the canals on a glass-top boat. Maybe visit Zaanse Schans – the quintessential Dutch village known for its windmills and specialty produce. Or even sleep in and take the day as it comes.


12 July, Sunday – Bonn, Andernach

This morning, awake to a new country, a new city, with unlimited possibilities for what the day could bring. After your sightseeing in Bonn, you’ll then travel to Andernach for your first Signature Experience.

Freedom of Choice Sightseeing:

Take a discovery through the city. 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, and you will visit the house where he was born, which is now a museum. Alternatively, set off on a bike to explore.

 13 July, Monday – Rüdesheim

Have your camera handy to capture some of the best scenery you’ll encounter as you cruise through the Rhine Gorge. Dock in Rüdesheim, where you will then choose your sightseeing.

A gondola ride over the Rhine Valley will give you the best perspective of the town. For something a little more quirky, Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum houses fine automated musical creations. Otherwise, a selection of fine Rhine Valley wines eagerly await your palate at an onboard tasting.


14 July, Tuesday – Miltenberg

Seize the day with your choice of sightseeing.

Pick up the pace and hike through a forested area overlooking Franconian vineyards. Or, go slow and head to a local cellar for a tipple or two. You can even stay on your ship and learn a little German.


15 July, Wednesday – Würzburg

The day is yours to design with our Freedom of Choice sightseeing inclusions.

Enjoy a walk to the 18th-century Würzburg Residence. Or traverse the Romantic Road to Rothenburg. Maybe get to know the locals with a visit to a family-owned farm, with a home-cooked morning tea on the menu.


16 July, Thursday – Bamberg

Relax on board as you sail to Bamberg. On arrival, join an exploration with a local expert to uncover everything World Heritage-listed Bamberg has to offer.                                     


17 July, Friday – Nuremberg

Select the sightseeing inclusion that best suits you. This afternoon, cruise onto the Main-Danube Canal. Having taken 32 years to construct, the canal links the North and Black seas.

From Passau, head to Salzburg to visit some of the sights featured in Roger and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Or set off into the Czech Republic, where Česky Krumlov awaits. Either way, re-board your ship in Austria’s Linz. Alternatively, explore the town of Passau, followed by a relaxing day on board cruising to Linz.


20 July, Monday – Melk, Dürnstein

A choice of sightseeing greets you in Melk. It’s then onto more remarkable scenery as you cruise through the Wachau Valley to Dürnstein, where you’ll roam its cobblestone lanes at your leisure. Or perhaps take a guided bike ride along the river from Melk to Dürnstein.

Visit the statuary-adorned Melk Abbey. Otherwise a local expert is on hand to show you around town.


21 July, Tuesday – Vienna

Today you will enjoy your Freedom of Choice inclusion. Tonight, your Signature Experience awaits.

Perhaps take in the city’s many landmarks along the Ringstrasse, including St Stephen’s Cathedral. The 1,441-room Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens are a favourite. Signature Experience:

After dinner, head to the Family of Liechtenstein’s City Palace in the heart of Vienna, where we have arranged an exclusive cocktail party and private recital, just for you. A full orchestra will perform classical masterpieces by Mozart and Strauss. You will also be enchanted by an operatic recital and some members of the Mozart Boys’ Choir.


22 July, Wednesday – Budapest

Enjoy a relaxing morning sailing to Budapest. Afterwards, enjoy your Signature Experience on May to September departures.                       

Signature Experience:

This afternoon, follow in the footsteps of the Habsburg Empire. Enjoy a welcome reception at Budapest’s Royal Waiting Room, then board the Grand Empress steam train. You will see inside some ornately adorned carriages from the early 1900s. Gödöllő Palace, Elisabeth of Bavaria’s favourite residence, is your destination. You will be shown through this monument of Hungarian aristocracy and architecture. Later, be treated like royalty with dinner served on your train, before returning to your ship. Operates on all departures between May and September.


23 July, Thursday – Budapest

Enjoy a morning city tour of Budapest taking in its historic monuments, followed by the afternoon at leisure to further explore.                              


24 July, Friday – Budapest

Disembark Ship after breakfast.

Sadly, the time has come to say goodbye and be transferred to the airport.
