Come October 5th, around 100,000 rev head fans will descend upon the regional town of Bathurst, NSW, to witness arguably one of the world’s premier endurance car races. The event has been held at the iconic Mount Panorama track since 1963 and is widely regarded as the pinnacle of Australian motorsport. The circuit is an intense mix of sharp turns, drastic elevations, and straights that see cars reach speeds of over 300km per hour. Sitting out by the track all day can be yard yakka, so we’ve come up with a list of the top Bathurst 1000 destinations for good food and a cold brew.
Jack Duggan’s Irish Pub: An institution for Bathurst locals and visitors alike. An award winning venue with a comfortable ambience. Trading since 1849! The pub is named after infamous Australian bushranger Jack Duggan aka ‘The Wild Colonial Boy’. Best steaks in town and authentic Irish food fare.
Knickerbocker Bistro: Great name and great food. Doesn’t look like much from the façade out front, but step inside to find hearty, traditional pub styles meals guaranteed to please. Affordable and central to town. Friendly service and a pleasant no frills atmosphere. On-site bottle shop.
Farmer’s Arms Hotel: A snug bar in a historic building. Drop in for a cold ale and counter meal. The open fireplace is a nice touch. An easy going vibe – perfect for a catch up with mates.
Kings on George Hotel: Established in 1853, The Kings Hotel is one of Bathurst’s original inner CBD hotels. A top spot to enjoy live music. The menu features delicious meals that strike a fine balance between traditional and contemporary flavours. Award winning kids club – good to know if parents are seeking time out from the little tackers.
