UFC Fight Night: Ulberg vs Reyes – Perth Preview
Published by on August 14, 2025
UFC returns to Perth this September with a blockbuster Fight Night headlined by one of the most compelling light heavyweight matchups of the year. Carlos Ulberg, riding a wave of momentum, steps into the Octagon against former title challenger Dominick Reyes in a five round showdown that could have major implications for the division.
Ulberg has surged through the rankings with an eight fight win streak, dismantling top names like Jan Błachowicz and Volkan Oezdemir in the process. His calm, calculated style combined with knockout power has made him one of the most dangerous strikers in the UFC today.
On the other side of the cage, Dominick Reyes knows what it takes to fight at the highest level. After nearly toppling Jon Jones in a razor close decision in 2020, Reyes faced a difficult stretch, but he’s now bounced back with three consecutive knockout victories, proving he’s still a serious threat at 205. With both men hovering near the top of the rankings, the winner in Perth could find themselves one win away from a title shot.
Early Bouts Already Delivering Buzz
Beyond the headliner, the first wave of announced fights is already building serious hype. Perth native Colby Thicknesse will make his UFC return against the explosive Josias Musasa in a bantamweight clash. Thicknesse, one of Australia’s brightest young prospects, will be looking to put on a show in front of his home crowd, while Musasa comes in on a tear of his own.
Navajo Stirling, the undefeated Kiwi light heavyweight, is also locked in for a tough test against Rodolfo Bellato. Stirling has impressed since making his debut, and this matchup will be a major step up against the always dangerous Bellato.
In the featherweight division, fan-favourite Doo Ho Choi returns to take on Daniel Santos in a bout that promises fireworks from the opening bell. And in women’s strawweight action, Muay Thai specialist Loma Lookboonmee will face the undefeated Alexia Thainara, who makes her highly anticipated Octagon debut.
All Eyes on Local Stars
Although only six fights are confirmed so far, there’s no shortage of speculation around who else might appear on the Perth card. Jimmy Crute is officially on the lineup, although his opponent has yet to be named. Fellow Aussie Tom Nolan is also expected to fight, likely against Evan Elder.
Fans are also keeping a close eye on potential additions like Tai Tuivasa, Casey O’Neill, Justin Tafa, and Stewart Nicoll. There’s even been talk of Dan Hooker making the trip across the Tasman, though nothing has been signed. With the event still weeks away, there’s plenty of time for more local heroes to join the bill.
Perth’s UFC Momentum Keeps Building
UFC Fight Night: Ulberg vs Reyes marks the promotion’s third trip to Perth in as many years, and its first ever non PPV Fight Night event in the city. After sell out shows at UFC 284 and UFC 305, Perth has quickly proven itself as one of the UFC’s most passionate and fight savvy destinations.
This card continues that momentum, blending emerging Australian and New Zealand talent with international contenders. Whether you’re there to see local favourites shine or to watch a potential light heavyweight title eliminator unfold, this is shaping up to be a huge night at RAC Arena.
More to Come
With only the first handful of bouts revealed, fans can expect more fight announcements in the coming weeks. UFC Perth is already on track to deliver a stacked card, and if the rumours are anything to go by, we’re only getting started.
