2019 North West 200 – Travel Packages & Deals
The North West 200 has become a mecca for motorcycle fans, offering a chance for the thousands of visitors to see the best line-up of road racers and witness some of the finest motorcycle racing on the planet. The week-long festival of speed is staged at the super fast 14.3km circuit known as ‘The Triangle’ that links the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine. Riders like Ian Hutchinson, Michael Dunlop, Bruce Anstey, Guy Martin and John McGuinness have thrilled the thousands fans who attend the North West 200 with blinding top speeds of 320+km/h, which are the fastest outright speeds on closed public roads. In addition to the incredible speeds, the abundant amount of slipstreams that you’ll witness at the North West 200 is sure to have you at the edge of your seat (or brick wall, or whatever else you might be sitting on!). On its long straights, riders often go shoulder-to-shoulder at speeds up to 320km/h and can often make up six or seven places by the time they complete the second of the two main straights of ‘The Triangle’.
North West 200 current race format runs as follows: several seperate races, each running 4-6 laps, are held during the Saturday afternoon of the official race date. Two practice days are scheduled before the race, one held on Tuesday and the other on the Thursday. However, what really makes the North West 200 different from other road races such as the Isle of Man TT is that all riders compete to be first over the finish line. This is far different from the time format road races like Isle of Man TT use. Aside from the thrilling racing, the North West 200 also hosts a myriad of supporting events, all set against the stunning backdrop of Causeway Coastline. This includes a vintage and classic bike run, a vintage and classic car run, an amazing fireworks display, rider meet and greet sessions, paddock walkabouts, live music and much more!
Travellers who attend the North West 200 also have a chance to experience Ireland’s rugged north coast which is packed full of amazing tourist attractions such as the world famous Giant’s Causeway – one of the natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO world heritage site and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. Also, near by is Ireland’s oldest distillery, the world renowned Bushmills. There is no lack of great places to explore after you’ve finished up at the North West 200.
